New Music Review - ‘Money Bag’ by Evie Bamford

Money Bag by Evie Bamford was released on the 28th of November 2025. Cover artwork: provided by Evie from her EPK

Emerging from Tāmaki Makaurau, up-and-coming indie-pop artist, Evie Bamford has just dropped her super-groovy new single, Money Bag which delivers delightfulness with its jazz-infusion, showgirl-type vibe for her debut single.

While Evie is an indie-pop artist, she showcases that even with her first single, she can do more than just those two combined genres, opening up the door that flexes on what she is capable of. Evie is basically a walking musician screaming “get you a girl who can do both!” and that is so admirable and is undeniably what a cool girl would do.

Evie’s soulful voice fills up a big space; her dominating vocals are what I imagine would capture the attention of jazz fans everywhere. Evie’s vocals are accompanied by a delightful brass section throughout Money Bag, which adds a magical spin into the track.

Evie is not afraid to bring forth honesty about what it’s like to have to work a 40-hour week with not so optimal pay in your 20s and just feeling rather stuck, a feeling a lot of us can see in our own lives.

Evie is introspective, she has a certain way of being able to express herself and incorporates her background of classical music into a piece that gets your hips moving and grooving. The tone of Money Bag is strong, yet breezy at the same time.

Money Bag is melodic and captures everything that a debut single should capture and with more projects on the horizon, Evie is starting to make her mark in the Auckland gig and music scene.

Evie has her first ever headlining show on Saturday, the 6th of December, so if you can, make sure to head along! Tickets from UTR.
